Eiffel Tower in Paris The Eiffel Tower in Paris was erected for the 1889 World Fair, and was the tallest building in the world until the Chrysler Building in Chicago was built in 1930. It was actually meant to be temporary, and can be dismantled with relative ease. Although Paris' artistic elite would have probably liked to have seen it taken down, its practical use as a platform for high-frequency antennas prevailed, and it is now one of the most recognizeable structures in the world.
